The week after Valentines’ Day 2002, Indigo Smoke brought its unique combination of Kansas City barbecue and contemporary soul food to Essex County’s restaurant capital, creating an instant sensation.
Six years later, Indigo’s chef-owner diversified the business with his full-service restaurant relocated to Maplewood, complete with a bar, and his core of Kansas City “Q” and side faves served fast at a modern counter-service restaurant in Montclair. “Customers have two ways to enjoy our product,” he says.
